Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia expresses his deepest condolences to his counterpart in Borno State, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum over the tragic and devastating suicide bombings that occurred on 29th June 2024 in Gwoza.
The Governor describes the attacks, which claimed the lives of 18 innocent Nigerians and about 40 others injured, as heart-wrenching and deeply saddening.
He says, “the reports of the attacks targeting a wedding ceremony, the subsequent funeral and a hospital are particularly distressing. Such senseless acts of violence against individuals celebrating significant life events, those providing and receiving medical care, are not only a direct assault on the affected families but also on the entire Borno State.
“My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones and to those who are suffering from injuries and trauma as a result of these heinous acts.”
To the people of the state, the Governor urges them to know that the thoughts and prayers of Benue people are with them, especially, the grieving families and all the residents of Borno State during the incredibly difficult time.
He says, “I hope for the swift recovery of the injured and the continued safety and security of your State. It is my sincere hope that peace will continue to prevail in Borno State and that the perpetrators of these senseless acts will be brought to justice”
The Governor prays for the souls of the departed to rest in peace, asking God Almighty to grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the loss of their loved ones.
